The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 explain the school-based delivery model of services that the Occupational and Physical Support Providers of Laurel Public Schools provide to qualified pupils. Services for physical therapy and occupational therapy provided in schools are not meant to replace private therapy. The focus of school-based therapy services is not on medical diagnoses or medical conditions that do not restrict a student's access to or participation in his or her educational program. The goal of occupational therapy and physical therapy provided in schools is to assess each student's capacity to operate in the classroom and to carry out the tasks and activities necessary for him or her to access the curriculum.
