School Social Work Services
The National Association of Social Workers defines the role of a school
social worker as follows,
“The School Social Work Profession consistently focuses on
coordinating the efforts of schools, families, and communities towards
helping students improve their academic achievement and social,
emotional, and behavioral competence by using its unique
perspective of viewing the person in his or her environment. School
Social Workers seek to ensure equitable education opportunities;
ensure that students are mentally, physically, and emotionally present
in the classroom; and promote respect and dignity for all students”
● School Social Workers are in all Laurel Public Schools, working as a
team with administrators, school counselors, and teachers.
● School Social Work services provide services throughout the school
day, which may include in class support, individual or group therapy,
and consultation with school staff/families. School Social Workers
have access to outside resources that can assist families with daily
living and needs.
● School Social Workers hold a clinical master’s degree in the field of
social work and are licensed through the State of Montana.
● School Social Workers use evidenced based interventions to inform
their service delivery in the school setting as well as varying models
of therapeutic approaches to best serve the student in need.
