On April 1, 2020, the U.S. Department of Labor announced new action regarding how American workers and employers will benefit from the protections and relief offered by the Emergency Paid Sick Leave Act and Emergency Family and Medical Leave Expansion Act, both part of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA). Laurel Public Schools has taken the stand to keep employees working and paid, which is a step many organizations throughout the country may not have the opportunity to do, however, the District believes its employees are the backbone of the education system and keeping employees paid as long as possible is the right thing to do.

Employees seeking to apply for Emergency Sick Leave or Emergency FMLA are certainly welcome to do so and we have developed a helpful decision chart to help you make the right choice when applying for leave.  If you still have questions please contact human resources.
